The Brand

Youth State Index, an initiative spearheaded by the National Homelessness Law Center and True Colors United, aims to provide a comprehensive snapshot of the legal, systemic, and environmental barriers faced by youth experiencing homelessness.

Originally developed in 2018, the Index serves as a vital resource for advocates, policymakers, and youth themselves, offering insights to address the complex challenges of youth homelessness.

The Challenge

Despite the wealth of data and insights provided by the Youth State Index, there was a pressing need to enhance its accessibility and usability.

The challenge lay in creating a user-friendly platform that effectively disseminated the Index’s findings and empowered stakeholders to take meaningful action in addressing youth homelessness.

The Goal

The aim was to create a website that presented the Index’s findings in a clear and accessible manner whilst providing resources and tools to facilitate advocacy, education, and collaboration among stakeholders.

The Solution

To address the challenge, Stellify executed a comprehensive web design and development process, guided by the following principles:

  • User-Centric Design

A user research to understand the needs and preferences of the platform’s target audience, including advocates, policymakers, service providers, and youth themselves. This informed the design of a user-centric interface that prioritized ease of navigation and accessibility.

  • Data Visualization

Given the complexity of the Index’s data, we focused on incorporating data visualization techniques to present key findings in a visually compelling and digestible format. This included interactive charts, graphs, and maps that allowed users to explore the data at various levels of granularity.

  • Resource Library

Recognizing the importance of providing additional resources and tools to support advocacy and education efforts, we developed a comprehensive resource library. This included research reports, policy briefs, toolkits, and best practice guides created from leading organizations working in the field of youth homelessness.

  • Mobile Optimization

In recognition of the diverse ways in which users access online content, we ensured that the platform was fully optimized for mobile devices. This ensured that users could access the Index’s resources and tools seamlessly, regardless of their preferred device.
